Well I am bored so I thought I would do a little rating of by far the greatest Pink Floyd CD of all time.
This CD has not only great music, but the transition between the songs is amazing, as in most of Floyd's music.
Anyways lets kick it off.
1) Speak to me (breath)
This is a two part song, the first part being an intro where if you turn it up really loud you can here a dude saying
"Ive been mad for fucking years, absolutely years, been
Over the edge for yonks, been working me buns off for bands...
Ive always been mad, I know Ive been mad, like the
Most of us...very hard to explain why youre mad, even
If youre not mad..."
Which pretty much sums up the theme of the whole CD. This of course is followed by the part known as Breath, which in most cases, such as on the radio, will be played right away and is the more recognized one. Great sound and lyrics in this one, just great.
Rating: 10/10
2) On the run
This song has a near perfect transition with the first song and is basically just a mish-mash of cool sounds. However due to the theme of the cd itself it works perfectly. This is something only Pink Floyd could ever get away with.
Rating 9/10
3) Time
This is the first song I can remember from my childhood so needless to say it is one of my favourites of all time. Long weird intro that turns into one of Floyd's most popular songs of all time. Great lyrics and sound, an overall winner.
Rating: 10/10
4) Great gig in the sky
This is just an amazing instrumental song with a solo from a lady who is heard a few times on this cd. At first listen you may not think much of it, but I will tell you, it grows on you.
Rating: 9/10
5) Money
This song is known to pretty much everyone who knows anything about music. While it is a good song it's over popularity, which further turns into over played..ness... has turned this great song into one that some people, myself included, get a little sick of. However putting that side it is a great song.
Rating: 9/10
6) Us and Them
I had no memory of this song when I put the cd on, however after a while it grew on me and I learned to love it as I did the others. Kind of a slow paced song but still a great listen.
Rating 9/10
7) Any colour you like
Amazing transition from us and them into this song, so much that I had no clue a new song had started when the song changed over. Kind of a funky sounding song, but loveable at that.
Rating 9/10
8) Brain damage
On of my favourite songs of all time, this song has great lyrics and a loveable sound, I fell in love with it the first time I heard it. Once again the name of the song keep the theme of the CD going.
Rating: 10/10
9) Eclipse
Once again perfect transition, this song is the shortest on the cd and sums up everything quite nicely, it is by personal favourite Floyd song of all time. Faster pace song, and quite possibly one of the best ways to end a cd, right up there with their 23 minute song Echo to end their CD Meddle. Anyways this song is a great song that sums up the theme of the cd.
Rating: 10/10
Overall rating: 10/10, if you love Floyd as much as I do, or just think they are ok this cd is a MUST HAVE!
Ok now I talked about the "theme" of this cd quite a few times, now I have heard a few ideas of what it is about as well as came up with some of my own. The conclusion I came up with, with some help, was it is about the events in one's modern life which can drive one to insanity. Anyways that is just my idea, you are free to think up your own if you like.
Anyways that sums up Dark side of the moon by Pink Floyd, I suggest you give it a listen, or if you already have, listen to it again.
Super special thanks to Kiirsti for letting me borrow her CD.
