Ok well since we have one thread on an awesome band (the beatles) I figured we should have one on another great band. That band being none other than Pink Floyd of course.
Pink Floyd is just another example of the great musical talent which has come from England. The band had started in 1965 and had been orignally lead by Roger Waters and Syd Barrett. However due to Barrett's increasingly erratic behaviour he was replaced by David Gilmour. From then on Pink Floyd started to do what they do best, they recorded several concept albums such as Animals, The Wall, Wish You Were Here (which is dedicated to late band member Syd Barrett) and of course my personal favourite Dark Side of the Moon.
Now dispite what many people think there is not actually anyone with the name Pink or Floyd in the band, yes I have seen people who think there is. The band's name was named after two of blues musicians, who also acted as an infulence to the band. The musicians were Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.
I personally feel one of the best aspects of Floyd's music is not only their musical talent but there ability to incorporate sounds into their music which helps the song's tune. Some of the sounds include the stoned laughing, running footsteps, money and cash register, heartbeats, and of course the clocks at the start of the song "Time." This is one of my favourite parts of the band because it is one reason some people don't like Pink Floyd. I have heard several people say they don't like Floyd due to their odd sound, which people like me instantly fall in love with. Another great aspect of the band is their ability to tell a story through their music with songs such as "The Trial" which happens to be one of my personal favourites. Followed of course by their amazing ability to make each song flow with the next.
Not only did Pink Floyd make great music, but much like The Beatles and The Who they have an amazing movie as well. The movie "Pink Floyd's the Wall" is one of the most amazing movies I have ever seen personally, however it is not for everyone, mainly created for Floyd fanatics. The movie uses very little dialoge but instead uses the lyrics from each song on the CD "The Wall" to progress the story of a character named Pink as he slowly falls into insanity. Anyways I think I already did a review on this, so I don't really think I need to go too deep into detail.
Unfortunately the band no longer plans to tour or create any new music as a group. However some of the members are still doing solo work which you can check out if you like. Nevertheless you can check out CD or DVD Pulse, which includes a live preformance of Dark Side of the Moon, as well as many other Floyd favourites.
Anyways my hands are tired from typing so you dudes can feel free to fill in anything I missed or if god forbid I made a mistake somewhere you can correct it.
