Girls with yo-yos and shirt skirts... need I say more?
For those of you who don't know about the original manga (which is all of you) some parts of this movie won't make sense to you, I know it didn't to me.
Aya Matsuura (as if you knew who that was) plays a delinquent who is forced by... some people... to go undercover at a school using the code name Saki Asamiya (this is where anyone who knows anything about the original series goes "I know that code name!" and wets themself... but the rest of us look on as the people in the movie make a big fuss about seemingly nothing.) Her mission to wear short skirts and find a terrorist who is hiding in the school, using only a yo-yo... and short skirts. She only has 3 days to save the her mother, herself, and... anyone within like 10-12 feet of the person with the bomb.
She makes a friend while at the school but that's as close to a love story as you get which is refreshing in this day in age of "EVERYONE HAS TO FALL IN LOVE OMG" of film.
Now this is Japanese cinima so the acting ranges from robotic (main character, seriously I don't think she ever makes an expression) to way over acted (her dad) and of course two guys who were such good friends I was afraid they may have started to tongue eachothers balls if left alone for another second.
Unlike most of the Japanese films I've see there was no last second twist, which was nice to see. However the box does call it an "Intense Non-Stop Action" movie... which was apparently written by someone who spends more than a healty amount of time watching CSPAN.
7/10 Could have used more action and it's a little confusing if you are not familiar with the existance of an original series, but the short skirts makes up for it
PS: Short skirts.
