It's been a long, long time since a Sonic game didn't make me facepalm so hard I'd awake in a hospital several days later in a haze. It's been even longer since a s Sonic game's gameplay wasn't so frustrating it cut my life-span in half. However, I'm proud to say that Sonic Generations was not only enjoyable, it personally apologized to me on behalf of every Sonic game made in the last 18 years. and bought me dinner*

Sonic Generations is by far the best Sonic game since Sonic and Knuckles. In this game you play as both classic Sonic and modern Sonic. Classic Sonic plays just the way he did last time a game was playable, and the modern Sonic plays as he does in more recent games, only they've made some small adjustments that make him more playable.
You play 1 level from various Sonic games as both classic and modern Sonic, and I have to say, they did a fantasic job.
Good bits:
Classic levels are beautiful and bring back memories and urges to go back to playing the classic games.
The ability to unlock songs from previous Sonic games and apply them to levels during gameplay.
Levels are replayable because of fun design and urge to get a S rank in every level, and I'm not even one of those people who care about getting perfect. The game is actually so amazing I'm looking for excuses to replay it.
Camera work in a Sonic game is exceptional for the first time since he went 3D.
You play as Sonic, only Sonic, and no one but Sonic. While I do enjoy Tails and Knuckles, it's nice to to play a game as the title character. Sonic's friends play a very small part in the game, which is good for people who are only fans of the classics.
Bad bits:
Some of the challenges are frustrating and take the fun out of the game, cause it to be more of a "I just want to get this out of the way"
A few glitches as every game does, a few cases where I fell through a floor to my death, the world would just vanish, getting stuck in a wall, and classic horrible Sonic camera angles. However, they happen very rarely and don't cause me to hate the game nearly as much as, oh let's say, Sonic Adventure.
Overall:
It goes without saying that this is the most playable and best Sonic game in almost 20 years. I was 6 years old the last time a good Sonic game came out... There are only 9 levels and 4 bosses with 90 little side challenges using the 9 levels. I wouldn't mind seeing some more levels released, and I really hope they do, because it's an amazing game and I'd probably break my usual "Don't pay for a game more than once" rule if they do release new levels for a price, the first time I've done so since my niece ruined my NHL 2004.
10/10 Now that I'm done Sonic Generations I'm going to name it my game of the year for 2011, because any game that can make me forgive 18 years of disappointment deserves some kind of award. If you're a Sonic fan this game is a must have, without a doubt.
