This is a rant so sit down, shut up, and read, or press the back button, that works too.
Ok, well today I got a nosebleed at work about 5 minutes before my shift and due to our crappy tissue paper it took about 10 minutes to stop it. I know what you are thinking, why would that affect it? Well simply because I had to keep switching to new tissue so I was unable to apply pressure for very long before it leaked through.)
Anyways to the point! During this period of time 4 people told me, "Tilt your head back to stop the bleeding." Including my head manager who is supposed to have proper training in treating injuries and crap. Now I understand that some of you may be saying "That's what everyone tells me so I do." However dispite what people tell you the first rule to a nose bleed is to NOT TILT YOUR HEAD BACK, thats right DO NOT. Why? Simple, the laws of gravity only go one way, down, and if the blood does not go out the nose it only has one more place left to go, and that is your throat.
For many years I was tilting it back because everyone told me to and yet I was always left wondering what the point was when I just kept choking on the blood and coughing it up, which made the bleeding last longer. Now I am sure you are asking how I can credit this little health tip, and well, I don't care if you mom, dad, grandma, neighbor, brother, sister, dog, or cat tell you to tilt it back because I was told by a doctor, not a clinic doctor, a real hospital doctor to never tilt it back.
Now I know to many of you this is a "so what?" kind of topic, and well... It is, unless you have nosebleeds on an almost daily basis like me and are constantly being told "tilt your head back." Anyways that ends this rant about the ignorance of people.
